Amy Deluxe hookahs: models, prices and how to spot an original

If you've ever scrolled through used hookah listings, you've seen the name Amy. The Amy Deluxe hookah shows up in our shop's listings more often than any other brand, and sellers put the name in the title even when all they're selling is a hose or a bowl. We pulled together what can actually be verified about the brand.

Who makes Amy Deluxe hookahs

It all started when Ibrahim Dabes came back from a vacation in Egypt with a hookah in his suitcase for his neighbor. That turned into a small import business run out of his basement. The company, based in Augsburg, has been around since 2004. The Amy Deluxe brand dates from 2007 and is named after the founder's daughter. The luxury line that followed in 2015 got his son's name: Amir's.

Today the group has four hookah brands (Amy Deluxe, Amir's, 4Stars and Unio) and, according to the history page on its website, sells more than 200 models in more than 30 countries. They call themselves the market leader for hookahs and accessories in Germany. Between 2017 and 2020 they opened 16 stores of their own, mostly in southern Germany.

So where are the hookahs actually made? The website says the company does its own manufacturing, but not where. A country of origin is listed only for their tobacco: Germany and Jordan.

Why the Amy hookah is so common in Serbia

We couldn't find any figures on hookah sales in Serbia, so we looked at our own. Of the 140 listings that have gone through our shop, eight have Amy in the title. Aladin, next in line, has three. Search tells a similar story: Google shows our site for Amy searches about six times as often as for Aladin searches.

It also helps that parts are easy to find. A Belgrade hookah shop sells a glass base for Amy's click system for 4,000 dinars (about €34), an Amy bowl set for 2,600 (about €22) and adapters for 400 and 600. Our shop has new Amy Deluxe bowls and a white Amy hose. When the base cracks, you don't have to throw out the whole hookah.

People smoke Amy in lounges too. According to our venue descriptions, Montana Shisha Bar mostly serves Adalya on Amy Deluxe hookahs, and Info Caffe runs on Amir's and Amy. In Belgrade there's also a listing to rent a “Premium Amy Deluxe” hookah for 24 hours, from 2,000 dinars (about €17).

Amy Deluxe models: steel, carbon, wood and brass

Under the Amy Deluxe brand, the manufacturer currently offers 186 items (colors are probably counted separately), split into steel, carbon, wood, aluminum, mini, traditional, brass and designer hookahs. The brand sells itself on a heavy steel stem and a quality glass base. Below are the models from our listings and a few of their “relatives.” Dimensions and German prices (VAT included, shipping extra) are from amydeluxe.de.

There's a pattern in the catalog, even though the manufacturer never explains it anywhere: .01 is the standard model, .02 the smaller “S” version (Pride R and Pride RS, Force R and Force RS), and .03 is usually a mini.

Amy Deluxe Carbon, or rather Carbonica

When someone advertises an “Amy Deluxe Carbon,” they most likely mean the Carbonica line. The carbon is just a covering, and underneath it there's a stainless steel stem. Prices run from €128.60 (Hybrid S, Lucid S) to €197.01 (Pride R, Force R), about 15,100–23,200 dinars, and the Solid model has been pulled from sale. Watch out for the X-Ray: the site keeps it in the carbon category, but its own product page says it's a wooden hookah.

Some Amy models have a click system: the stem locks onto the base with a short twist. The carbon models we checked are threaded, and so are the Fusion Kite S and the old 4Stars 460. A spare base has to match your model's system.

Amy 4 Stars, Amir's and Unio: same family, different budgets

A listing for “Amy 4 Stars,” like the 4Stars 450 in our shop, means a model from this cheaper line, so compare the price with entry-level models. A German online store describes the 450 as a small 62 cm brass hookah, and the official spare base for it is threaded. The same base fits the 410, 420, 440 and 460. Careful, though: the number 450 is also on the Amy Deluxe Little Volcano, which has a click connection, so check the connection before you compare prices.

What you get in the box

It depends on the model, but the lists don't differ much. Here's what officially comes with the Carbonica Pride RS:

• “Stone” tobacco bowl with a hot screen
• carbon-covered steel stem
• glass base
• threaded stem-to-base connection
• hose adapter with a ball joint
• four hose ports
• removable diffuser on the downstem
• silicone hose and aluminum mouthpiece
• mouthpiece holder
• ash plate and charcoal tongs

The Woodica has a click connection instead of a thread, one hose port and a built-in diffuser. The official bundle with it (€146.90) adds a kilo of Amy Gold charcoal and an electric charcoal burner.

The hot screen is an Amy attachment that, according to one gear seller's description, goes on the bowl instead of foil, with the coals sitting on top of it. We covered how to pack a bowl and what else you can put on it in our post on hookah bowls.

How much does an Amy Deluxe hookah cost in Serbia

We couldn't find a Serbian price list for new Amy hookahs that we could verify, so we pieced the prices together from three sources: our listings, amydeluxe.de and an online shop in Montenegro. We converted euros at the National Bank of Serbia's middle rate for September 29, 2026 (117.54 dinars).

The used range is for whole hookahs. Damaged ones can go for less than 4,000 (more on that in the base check below), and the 20,000 Woodica in the list below is a bundle with a kaloud and charcoal, so don't compare it with the price of a hookah on its own. The cheaper 4Stars line is marked down to €29–49 in the official store, about 3,400–5,800 dinars.

For comparison, the median price of all new hookahs in our shop is 14,550 dinars (about €124), and of used ones 4,000. A used Fusion Kite S for 10,000 is about 61% of its last official price. Going by the price tiers in our guide Buying your first hookah, the bigger steel and carbon Amy models are premium (15,000+) when new, and used ones drop into the mid-range or below it.

Used Amy Deluxe hookah: what to check

A hookah has no electronics, so almost any fault is visible to the naked eye. Go over a used Amy in this order, ideally in person:

1. Grommets. A worn grommet is the most common reason for weak smoke, so look for cracks. You'll be replacing all of them anyway. Original Amy grommets cost €0.49 to €1.98 and differ by connection type (click, old click, chamber system). See it in 3D
2. Purge valve. The ball inside lifts when you blow into the hose and closes again when you inhale. Over time, moisture eats away at cheaper balls until they stick. Blow, then watch whether the stale smoke comes out through the valve. See it in 3D
3. Base. Hold it up to the light and look closely at the neck and the bottom. In our shop, one seller offers Amy and Aladin hookahs with a cracked base for 3,000–3,500 dinars. See it in 3D
4. Stem. Look at it outside and inside, with a flashlight. Peeling, stains and rust are a reason to walk away or talk the price down. The same seller also sells steel stems on their own, 1,800 dinars each. See it in 3D
5. Hose and mouthpiece. Smell the hose: if it still reeks of old tobacco after washing, it has to go. Get a new mouthpiece anyway, for hygiene. A new white Amy hose is 2,000 dinars in our shop, so factor that into the price.
6. Test draw. Put the hookah together, cover the bowl with your palm and pull. If no air gets through, the joints are airtight. The original box helps you confirm the model.

Original or fake: how to spot a genuine Amy Deluxe hookah

We didn't find a reliable test. We saw no guide to spotting copies on amydeluxe.de, and in a 2014 thread on a German forum, where someone asked whether their Amy was fake, nobody mentioned a serial number or an engraving that identifies an original. A seller that presents itself as an authorized Amy dealer warns that there are lots of copies around.

Price is a good alarm bell: a new “Carbonica” at a 4Stars price doesn't add up. And pick the hookah up. On that forum, someone wrote that an Amy shouldn't feel like cheap sheet metal, and the steel and carbon models in this post weigh 5.2 to 6.5 kg (about 11.5 to 14.3 lb).

Amy Deluxe or another brand?

For home use, Amy is a practical choice, mostly because you can get parts for it in Serbia. If this is your first hookah, a used steel Amy from the mid-range is a sensible place to start.

Whatever the brand: according to the US CDC, the water in a hookah doesn't filter the smoke, and the charcoal gives off carbon monoxide, metals and cancer-causing chemicals. A hookah is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.
